“C.L. far exceeded my expectations. Not only did she get back to me quickly, but she also provided thoughtful feedback. She made notes throughout my story to let me know what worked/didn’t work. She also wrote a summary at the end. She gave me ideas for how to adjust the pacing, how to maximize the impact of key events in the book, tweaks I could make to the plot to make it even stronger and even plot ideas for how I could expand this into a series. She didn’t just skim over the story and write up a few notes. I could tell that she put a lot of thought into how to help me make this the best story it could be, and her tone was always encouraging and supportive. I would highly recommend her. I think both first-time authors and those with more experience will find her services to be valuable.” -L. Danvers
Make your story stand out.

There is a biblical proverb which claims, “There is nothing new under the sun”. Maybe that is true, but no author wants to believe it. You don’t want to tell a story that has already been told; you want your book to be fresh and exciting. At the same time, you need your book to meet your readers’ expectations. A Harlequin-style romance that ends unhappily or a thriller that fails to thrill isn’t ‘unique’ so much as ‘unsatisfying’.
So how do you get your plot just right? How do you know when your book needs a trope, and when it doesn’t? How do you avoid stereotypes, flat characters, and predictable plot lines, while still producing something that your readers enjoy?
Call in C.L. Lynch, of course!
I’m an ardent smasher of unnecessary tropes and I have a passion for stories which haven’t yet been told. I won’t ask you to put an unhappy ending on your light romance or take the gore out of your thriller, but I will let you know areas where I spot predictable plot twists, stereotypical characters, and other problems which make your characters seem flat or your story seem tired. I will send you suggestions of ways to add a breath of fresh air to your book and create characters who are memorable and a plot that readers will love.
This service is also useful as a general beta-read. I will read your story and give feedback on the story’s pacing, characters, and plot.
C.L. is awesome! She was very professional, honest and gave great constructive criticism without being rude, sugarcoating or disrespectful. She showed great sportsmanship and class. She kept consistent interaction with me as my beta reader/editor which is so important and was very genuine and considerate. I would definitely recommend her as a beta reader/developmental editor and would use her again. – Angel Chadwick
Don’t get caught making amateur mistakes.
Up to 20,000 words.

We’ve all done it – we look at something we wrote five, ten, maybe even twenty years ago, and we wince. There are certain mistakes all emerging authors tend to make, such as overdependence on dialogue tags, indiscriminate use of adverbs, intrusive narration, and convoluted sentence structure.
It happens to all of us, and it can be hard to pick out yourself.
Publishers are careful to catch things like that before a book goes to print, but independent authors have to find someone else to catch those little tell-tale habits that scream “amateur!” to their readers. I use editors of my own for this exact reason. It’s hard to be objective with your own writing.
I can help you identify these little slips and advise you on how to fix them to give your story that professional polish.

Enrich your manuscript with an in-depth examination of language, plot, character arcs, dialogue, and pacing. You will get detailed notes on every aspect of your novel, as well as a thorough summary full of recommendations to elevate and improve your story, its characters, narration, and pacing.
Please note that this is not a line-edit or proofread. While I will certainly draw your attention to recurring grammar problems or any typos I happen to notice, my focus will be on your story and how it is being told. I’m not running your story through Grammarly and returning it to you – I am analyzing it and working to help it fulfill its potential.
Carol was my developmental editor for a middle grade novel, The Fun Factor. I was impressed by the breadth and depth of her advice, reflecting her emotional engagement with the text as well as vital strategic input. All the bases were covered, such as characterisation, plot, narrative arc and series development, and her feedback brimmed with ideas. The book is undoubtedly better for her input and I’d have no hesitation in using her services again. –Mat Waugh
